Lithuanian design exhibitions cycle DESIGN LITHUANIA continues its journey around Europe. This time exhibition visited fashion and design capital Paris. During Paris Design Week (September 3-10) works of 12 young Lithuanian designers were presented to the audience of Parisians for the very first time. During the festival Lithuanian design was placed in the futuristic Les Docks – Cite de la Mode et du Design building.

This time grey tones and a bit of Lithuanian greenery invaded DESIGN LITHUANIA stand. As always the perfume of the stand was provided by FUMparFUM and Aistis Mickevičius. Beleberda jackets with reflectors definitely were one of the most popular exhibits – local youth couldn’t stop trying them on. nOEMA PAPERHOUSE and their unique cotton paper notebooks attracted visitors’ attention so that the girls barely managed to bring even more and more notebooks to the stand. Creative studio INDI presented the illuminator that many people believed to be concrete and super heavy but… it is just a few kilograms! Tashe Tashe were appreciated for super soft leather and precise detailsThe Japanese delegation couldn’t take their eyes off of ŠIAURĖ ceramics and its moderate forms and material. 2RU2RA subtle drawings surprised even solid ladies. Visitors with children were interested in reflective hats by HELLO!MOON. Lamp by Vilius Dringelis were approached by design engineers and constructors. The visitor who bought DD WORKSHOP earrings for his daughter mentioned that to look for a ring to his wife he will go only to Lithuania. EMKO desk with chair fascinated by the simplicity and functionality (not a secret that Frenchs live in a quite small apartments).

“Although Lithuanian designers have already been successfully presented in Maison & Objet exhibition, invading Paris design week was not so easy. Parisian pace of life, certain national French habits and the language barrier caused some difficulties at the beginning. No wonder why Paris design week is criticised for excessive closure and lack of internationality. Nevertheless, the event is really high quality. Visitors here have a high curiosity, are interested in not only our design concepts but also in our country and culture”- said Lithuanian design forum CEO Audronė Drungilaitė.

Cultural Attaché in France Vida Gražienė said that continuity of such projects is a must. “There are plenty of events in Paris every day, but design week is a great platform for young designers to be noticed and means to attract more attention to the field of design” – said Vida. Ambassador visited the stand as well and was happy that not only unique pieces of work are presented but also actual products that represent Lithuanian wood processing, furniture and textiles industry.

We hope that in the next years our designers will have even more brilliant ideas that we could introduce to international audience.

The project is partly funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture, in cooperation with the Lithuanian Institute of Culture, the cultural attaché Vida Gražienė and the Embassy of the Republic of France.
