The image for Design Week 2023 was created by graphic designer Pijus Burakas.

From 5 to 11 June 2023, six Lithuanian cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Alytus, Telšiai and Anykščiai – will be plunged into a design fiesta, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the search for new images: for themselves, for their homes and for their businesses.

Theme and colour

The organisers announce the theme of Design Week 2023 – #Challenges. This is the organisers’ invitation to come face-to-face with provocations and dare to keep on creating together, using design to solve problems in everyday life.

Viva Magenta is Pantone’s colour of the year. Starting this year, in collaboration with the Colour Institute, the organisers of Design Week are delivering the message that the colour of the year 2023 is “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time”. A tone pulsating with energy and boldness, it encourages optimism and invites experimentation, perfectly reflecting the characteristic of the #Challenges theme.

Since design challenges start with pure mathematics or the latter dressed up as philosophy, this year’s Design Week poster is reminiscent of the ancient Greek scientist Euclid. Or more precisely, the golden ratio, otherwise known as the harmonic ratio or the divine proportion, as first described by him. Although pyramids in ancient Egypt are also thought to have been built on the basis of the golden ratio, it was in the 4th century that Euclid used this ratio to draw regular pentagons and decagons. Later, many scientists have described and used the divine proportion to discover solutions, and artists have created many systems. In music, the golden ratio brings harmony and dynamism, in sculpture it creates perfect proportions, in architecture it helps to fulfil functionality.
