Design for Europe is a three-year programme to support design-driven innovation across Europe. It is co-funded by the European Union as part of the EU’s Action Plan for Design-Driven Innovation.

Design for Europe is being delivered between January 2014 and December 2016 by a consortium of design organisations, universities and business support organisations from across the EU. Lithuanian Design Forum joined the programme as well and became an official programme ambassador in Lithuania.

By sharing knowledge, experience and skills Design for Europe aims to strengthen the European design community of practice, and ultimately equip businesses, public sector organisations and policymakers with the tools they need to innovate.

During the DESIGN WEEK LITHUANIA 2016 festival, Design for Europe organised two events in Vilnius. One of them was aimed at SMEs that can tackle a strategic design approach in their business models. The purpose of the event was to inspire new reflections and provide tools and insights on how to apply design thinking and design doing in various organisations. The event combined inspirational talks, reflection sessions and a hands-on insights workshop.

On May 3rd 2016, Design for Europe also facilitated a Design Policy Workshop for 18 stakeholders representing government, the innovation agency, academia, the design sector and design promotion organisations to jointly develop a set of policy proposals to enhance the supply of and demand for design in Lithuania. The workshop, led by Design for Europe Expert Dr Anna Whicher, used design methods to develop policy ideas (policy for design
by design).

The group generated around 70 policy ideas that were refined into a set of 10 higher impact actions. All the details and conclusions can be found in Lithuanian design policy report.
