news_281Exhibition Design Lithuania 2001-2013
2013 September 16 – October 18.
ARUP, 8 Fitzroy St, Londonas

During the annual London design festival Lithuanian exhibition “Design Lithuania 2001 – 2013” will also be presented. Exhibition will show the best industrial design items and the work of young designers made in the last 12 years.

In ARUP company headquarters 16 Lithuanian designers works will be exhibited: famous chair “KU-DIR-KA” by designer Paulius Vitkauskas, steel tables “Romance” by Neringa Dervinytė and other design objects by Nauris Kalinauskas, Žilvinas Stankevičias, Rytis Zaveckis, Mindaugas Žilionis, Juozas Brundza, etc.

“Lithuanian design developers, especially young people, are actively interested in the latest processes and technologies. But at the same time most of the design work I have seen is closely linked with the history of Lithuania and crafts. Tension resulting from the development of innovative ideas and at the same time maintaining the tradition of the past, is very interesting and very important in shaping the present and future of Lithuanian identity,”- says ARUP exhibitions curator Dr. Jennifer Greitschus.

The leader of Lithuanian Design Forum Vytautas Gurevičius says: “Exhibition “Design Lithuania 2001-2013” will introduce the audiences from Great Britain and the visitors from other countries with contemporary and creative identity of Lithuania.  This exhibition is the sequel of the project started two year ago – “Lithuania and design symbols 2001-2011”. We are glad that our project, which was intended for foreign partners, for the fourth time turns into an exhibition. The first – “Lithuanian design: Past, Present, Future” – successfully represented Lithuania in 2012, the year when Helsinki was the world’s design capital, and later in October of the same year – in Tallinn and Kiev. This our exhibition at our partners ARUP hopefully will open up new perspectives for Lithuanian designers as their work will be exhibited for the entire month and seen by the world’s most famous architects, thousands of representatives of the London Design Festival, participants and guests. Seven years ago, when creating Lithuanian Design Forum, we had this vision of designers participation in international events vision. Today because of our efforts Lithuanian design has been presented in Milan, Turin, Helsinki, Frankfurt, Tallinn, Kiev, Minsk, and this year for London and Caen (France). It is nice when a vision becomes a reality.

The exhibition presented by the Lithuanian Embassy in London, together with the Lithuanian Design Forum and ARUP. The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
