May 4 – 10 Lithuanian DESIGN WEEK is going to take place in five biggest cities of Lithuania – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Telšiai. It‘s already tenth and anniversary festival this year. During DESIGN WEEK visitors will have a chance to participate in professional workshops, visit exhibitions, get designer-label clothes and accessories and of course – meet new people and have fun.

This year festival received 219 participation applications that are divided into several categories.

One of the most important and official events of DESIGN WEEK – „Good design“ prize awards, that will take place on May 4th in Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. „Good design“– it‘s a national contest that aims to discover and award the best design concepts in Lithuania. Special prize is given to 12 best product designs and 3 projects. Also there are 15 diplomas: 12 for product design and 3 for projects. In the evening of the same day in Energy and technology museum in Vilnius exhibition of all „Good design“ winners‘ works will be opened as well as official DESIGN WEEK opening will be held and followed by „PechaKuchaNight“ – short presentations on design industry.

One of the most unusual events of the whole week– project „designovation.lt“, when many young designers present their work just in the windows of old town shops and cafes. Why not to join such an interesting and interactive city tour?

Everyone interested in interior and public places design are welcome to visit exhibition in „Domus galerija“ (P. Lukšio g. 32) held by famous Lithuanian magazine „Interjeras.lt rekomenduoja“. During the event professional architects and designers will evaluate objects dedicated to interior or public places design.

This year even three universities are joining DESIGN WEEK – Vilnius Academy of Arts, Vilnius College and Vilnius College of Technology and Design. What is more, popular conference for young professionals „5/5“ will pay some attention to the subject of design.

Those who are visiting Kaunas, will have a chance to buy some fashion items in „Fashion bazaar“ and the ones who are interested in ecology and unusual design will have a chance to participate in ecology-based workshop „Kaunas: treasures of trash“ where Lithuanian designers together with artists from Finland Henrik Enbom and Jari Miranda will transform old and no longer useful objects into new design concepts – furniture, installations, etc.

In Klaipėda, as it is the city on the seashore, visitors will be invited to develop city‘s marine potential in workshops about marine design and also visit exhibition „Marine design: past-present-future“ held by Gdansk academy of arts.

In Šiauliai a lot of attention to photography will be paid. Also special interactive tour with virtual tool „City Quest“ will be held. The route will bring you to see famous architect Vladas Bitė interwar modernist architectural heritage or individual route with special leaflet on the subject „Interwar modernism. Šiauliai“.

The most active participant of Telšiai events – students from Academy of arts. They will invite you to see many expositions, participate in different workshops or visit artists‘ studios.

This year festival is also really interested in the subject of design policy – we believe that correctly formed approach to design and its promotion can significantly contribute to Lithuania’s image abroad and the whole economy of the country. For developing this subject, conference „Future of design in Lithuania“ will be held on May 6th in Vilnius. Special guest of the event – Robin Edman – Chief Executive of SVID, Swedish Industrial Design Foundation.

The festival is finished with Design weekend that will provide you with a chance to visit designers studios in Vilnius loft area, participate in workshops, buy something nice and stylish, and meet in informal space. Official closing party – concert/auction – will be in Kaunas.
